SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER : BALLS WOOD, HERTS

Balls Wood is a large, varied woodland with sunny rides, mainly hornbeam but with some birch, aspen and conifer, which our group visited for the first time this spring.  It is managed by the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust who bought it from the Forestry Commission 20 years ago.  Park at Grid ref. TL348105, along the side of the track known as Elbow Lane (the old Ermine St) which runs south from London Road (B1197) at Hertford Heath SG13 7PY.
